Create a slideshow: an MP4 video from photos, no upload
A product post on Instagram, a portfolio sequence on your own website or a short clip for a trade fair screen rarely needs video editing software. Usually a handful of photos in the right order, each shown for a few seconds, is enough. That is exactly what this tool does, and it does it entirely on your own device.
For some years now, modern browsers have shipped a real video encoder in the form of the so-called WebCodecs, the same one that video conferencing software uses. This tool draws your images frame by frame onto an invisible canvas, sends them through this encoder and assembles an MP4 file from the result. Your photos never leave your computer or smartphone in the process.
How to create your slideshow
1. Select images
Drag the photos into the field above or select them via the button. Several files at once are no problem. Up to 40 images per video are possible.
2. Set the order
Every tile shows its position in the top left corner. Drag the image by this number to the desired place, with the mouse just as with your finger. If you prefer tapping or working with the keyboard, use the two arrow buttons below each image.
3. Set the display time
In the seconds field of each tile, enter how long this image should be shown, between half a second and 60 seconds. If the same value should apply everywhere, set it once at the top and click “Apply to all”. The total length of the video always equals exactly the sum of these seconds.
4. Choose the format and render
Landscape 16:9 suits YouTube, your own website and presentations, portrait 9:16 suits Reels, TikTok and Stories, and the square suits the classic Instagram feed. Images that do not fit the chosen format are cropped in the centre, and the preview shows you exactly what stays in the picture beforehand.
How long does it take to render the slideshow?
Because the computation runs on your device, the time it takes depends on its performance. On a current notebook a one-minute video is usually ready in a few seconds, on an older smartphone it takes correspondingly longer. The progress bar shows the status, and you can cancel at any time. The advantage of this approach: no queue, no watermark, no limit of a few free exports per day, and above all no third-party servers holding your photos.
Privacy: why “no upload” is meant literally here
Many free video tools online upload your images to a server, process them there and supposedly delete the files again after a while. You have to take that on trust. With this tool that trust problem disappears, because technically there is no upload at all: there is no endpoint to which images could be sent. You can verify this in any browser: open the developer tools with the F12 key, switch to “Network” and create a video. Not a single request with image data leaves your device.
Still, keep the rights to the images themselves in mind: if people are recognisable, you need their consent before publishing the video. For purchased stock photos, the licence decides whether use in moving images is covered.

How do I create a slideshow from photos for free?

Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. The slideshow is computed directly in your browser using the WebCodecs interface that modern browsers provide for this. Your photos never leave your device, there is no upload and we store nothing. You can verify this yourself: open the network panel of the developer tools (F12 key) while creating a video; not a single request with image data leaves your device during rendering.
Which browsers does the slideshow generator work in?
Chrome and Edge from version 94, Safari from 16.4 (including iPhone and iPad), Firefox from version 130 and Chrome for Android. Firefox for Android and older Safari versions are not supported. If your browser lacks the required video interface, the tool tells you so as soon as you open it instead of letting you select images first.
How do I set how long each image is shown?
Every tile in the gallery has its own seconds field, from 0.5 to 60 seconds. With “Apply to all” you set one value for all images in a single step. The total length always equals exactly the sum of the entered seconds: three images at two seconds each give a six-second video, even with the crossfade switched on.
Which video format and quality do I get?
An MP4 file with H.264 video, 30 frames per second and no audio track. For 16:9 landscape that is 1920 × 1080 pixels (Full HD), for 9:16 portrait 1080 × 1920 pixels and for the square format 1080 × 1080 pixels. This combination plays on practically every device and in all common social networks.
How many images can a slideshow contain?
Up to 40 images and a total video length of at most 10 minutes. This limit protects your own device: because the computation runs locally, the time it takes depends on your processor. On a current computer a one-minute video is ready in a few seconds, on an older smartphone it takes correspondingly longer. The progress bar shows the status, and you can cancel at any time.
Can I use HEIC photos from my iPhone?
On iPhone, iPad and Mac with Safari, yes, because Apple decodes the format at system level. Chrome and Firefox cannot open HEIC; there the tool reports each affected file individually instead of silently skipping it. To be safe, switch your iPhone to “Most Compatible” under “Settings → Camera → Formats”; photos are then captured as JPEG.
May I use the slideshow commercially?
Yes. There is no watermark, no registration and no usage restriction on our side. Just make sure you hold the rights to the photos you use: recognisable people require their consent, stock photos require the appropriate licence.
